Flex strongly influences board-responsiveness and is one of the most underrated characteristics in kite surfboard construction. This is because adding flex to conventional sandwich surfboards usually coincides with reduced durability. So we refrain from prioritizing flex as we are not willing to buy an expensive kite surfboard every three months. This is unfortunate because flex is like the soul of a board. It makes the board feel alive and enables you to sense the wave. To solve this problem, DSP shaper Andreas developed the ‘Bionic Flex Design (BFD)’, a construction based on a semi hollow core without stringer. BFD boards absorb energy and disperse it over the entire board instead of eternalizing it like cartilage damage in your joints. BF technology surfboards flex like Chinese Shaolin Monks – well-controlled and powerful - comparable to a thinly laminated polyester surfboard.
